Most bettors won’t touch these numbers—and that’s exactly the point. ‘Hot Takes’ embraces the uncomfortable side of the board. These are bold picks, not guaranteed locks! Take them with a grain of salt.
Here’s what you need to know.
The Hot Take
Ole Miss +500 to win the national title in College Football.
The Scenario
We’re down to the final four of the College Football Playoff and oddsmakers released odds for each team to win it all. The Ole Miss Rebels are the longshot of the group at +500.
Say Indiana takes care of Oregon (again).
And Ole Miss handles Miami.
Ole Miss should be +250 in the championship game.
Ole Miss +500 is a value.
If Ole Miss can jump out to an early lead against Indiana, you could hedge a guaranteed win. https://t.co/XKXS1OXW0w

Miami is Beatable
In order to advance to the championship game, Ole Miss must defeat the Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl semifinal.
Ole Miss is currently a +3.5 underdog heading into this matchup. While they’re the underdog, the close point spread tells you that oddsmakers feel this is a winnable game for Ole Miss.
The Rebels just beat the Georgia Bulldogs 39-34 in the quarterfinals in what was arguably their best all-around game of the season. They trailed early, forced multiple turnovers, controlled the line of scrimmage in the second half, and watched Trinidad Chambliss deliver a career-defining performance with over 360 passing yards and several huge throws. That win was proof they can hang with a top-tier SEC defense.
Their 24-14 quarterfinal upset over Ohio State looked good on the scoreboard, but a closer look shows it was more about the Buckeyes shooting themselves in the foot with turnovers and penalties than Miami completely dominating. Carson Beck has been steady and smart since stepping in at quarterback, and the Hurricanes bring a veteran, physical defense featuring experienced linebackers.
That pedigree makes Miami a real threat. But it also means this isn’t some impossible scenario. Ole Miss has the pieces and Lane Kiffin has a well-documented history of getting his teams to peak late in the year.
Miami has been impressive, but this is not a situation where Ole Miss needs a miracle to advance.
Potential Championship Matchups
If Ole Miss beats Miami, they’ll face either Indiana or Oregon in the championship game.
Indiana is the heavy favorite. In that matchup, Ole Miss would open around +240 to +260 as underdogs, reflecting Indiana’s elite status but also highlighting a gap where the current futures odds undervalue the Rebels’ chances.
If Oregon pulls off the upset, the value gets even stronger. Ole Miss would likely be closer to even money or a small underdog against the Ducks. Either way (Indiana or Oregon), Ole Miss profiles as a live underdog in the championship game.
Plan on Hedging
If you don’t believe Ole Miss can win it all, that’s okay. A +500 ticket on Ole Miss gives you built-in flexibility via hedging. If the Rebels reach the championship and jump out to an early lead (say, 7-0 in the first quarter), live markets will swing hard.
That opens the door to hedging a guaranteed victory.
For example: A $500 bet on Ole Miss at +500 pays $2,500 (plus your original $500).
Imagine they beat Miami as a +3.5 underdog. If they take an early lead in the championship game, you would find yourself in position to hedge for a guaranteed profit. Let’s say it’s 7-0 Ole Miss at the end of the first quarter. You can live bet Indiana at likely odds of something like -120. $1,800 on the Hoosiers at -120 yields a guaranteed profit of $700 to $1,000 regardless of who wins.
Or, if you’re liking Ole Miss to pull off the upset…you don’t have to hedge at all.
