So, how is the Heisman Trophy picture shaping up in 2025? Here’s what you need to know.
Overview
Last season, Colorado’s Travis Hunter made history by winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy, becoming just the second primarily defensive player ever to earn college football’s most prestigious individual honor. A true two-way star, Hunter dazzled voters with his playmaking at both CB and WR, securing 552 first-place votes.
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty finished second with 309 first-place votes after a monster season that powered the Broncos to a Mountain West title. Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and Miami’s Cam Ward rounded out the list of finalists.
Heisman Trophy
The Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football, as determined by a vote of media members, former winners, and one collective fan ballot. Finalists are selected based on total voting points, with ballots weighted toward first-, second-, and third-place votes.
The voting panel includes over 900 media representatives across six regions, plus all living former Heisman winners. The winner is announced each December at a nationally televised ceremony in New York City, following the conclusion of conference championship games. The award recognizes not only statistical excellence, but also impact on team success, big-game performance, and overall college football legacy.

Preseason Player Spotlights
Arch Manning (+700)
After patiently waiting his turn, Arch Manning steps into the spotlight as Texas’ full-time starter in 2025. Backed by one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation and surrounded by elite playmakers, Manning has the stage and the supporting cast to put up massive numbers in the SEC. His strong arm, poise, and national profile make him a natural fit for the Heisman conversation.
At +700, Manning is a marquee contender – offering bettors a blend of name recognition, upside, and elite opportunity in a proven system.
Garrett Nussmeier (+900)
After taking over as LSU’s starting quarterback in 2024, Garrett Nussmeier showcased a big arm and fearless approach in Brian Kelly’s offense. With a full year of SEC experience under his belt and a strong supporting cast around him, Nussmeier enters 2025 poised to take another step forward as one of the most dangerous playmakers in the country. His aggressive downfield style and ability to shine in big moments make him a serious threat in the Heisman race.
At +900, Nussmeier is a high-upside play for bettors banking on a breakout season from a proven SEC starter with NFL-caliber tools.
Cade Klubnik (+1100)
Clemson’s offense showed signs of life down the stretch in 2024, and much of the optimism for 2025 centers on Klubnik’s development. Entering his third year as a starter, he brings leadership, dual-threat ability, and a deeper playbook into what could be a make-or-break season for the Tigers. If Clemson surges back into national contention, Klubnik’s Heisman stock will rise with it.
At +1100, Klubnik is a calculated value pick with both experience and opportunity on his side.
Jeremiah Smith (+1300)
The top returning wide receiver at Ohio State, Smith has game-breaking potential and a growing national profile. After a strong freshman campaign, he’s now the centerpiece of an offense that reloads talent yearly. If OSU’s new quarterback can get him the ball consistently, Smith could produce the type of season rarely seen from a receiver since DeVonta Smith’s 2020 Heisman win.
At +1300, Smith is a high-upside play – an elite talent in the right system with the ability to rewrite the narrative at his position.
Julian Sayin (+1800)
Now at Ohio State, former five-star recruit Julian Sayin enters 2025 as one of the most intriguing breakout candidates in college football. With Will Howard off to the NFL, Sayin inherits a national championship roster stacked with elite talent at wide receiver – most notably Jeremiah Smith – and an offensive line built to protect. If he locks down the starting job and hits the ground running, Sayin could generate serious Heisman buzz by midseason.
At +1800, Sayin is a high-upside sleeper pick – offering strong value for bettors banking on talent, pedigree, and the Buckeyes’ proven system.
