With a deep pool of proven contenders and emerging threats, the ACC title race stands out as one of the most competitive in the Power Five – with multiple programs capable of capturing the conference crown.
So, how is the ACC shaping up in 2025? Here’s what you need to know.
Overview
Last season, the Clemson Tigers edged out SMU 34-31 in a thrilling ACC Championship Game, with quarterback Cade Klubnik earning MVP honors for his clutch performance.
Clemson finished 7-1 in conference play and 10-4 overall, while SMU posted a perfect 8-0 ACC record and 11-3 overall in its first year in the league. Miami (6-2 ACC, 10-3 overall) remained in the mix all season, and four other teams – Syracuse, Duke, Louisville, and Georgia Tech – each finished 5-3 in conference play.
ACC Championship
The ACC Championship is awarded each year to the winner of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game. Since eliminating divisions in 2023, the ACC now sends the top two teams in the final conference standings — regardless of geographic alignment — to compete for the title. The winner of this single-game matchup is crowned ACC champion.

Preseason Team Spotlights
Clemson Tigers (+130)
Clemson reclaimed the conference crown in 2024 under head coach Dabo Swinney, defeating SMU in a hard-fought title game. With quarterback Cade Klubnik back after earning ACC Championship MVP honors, the Tigers look poised to stay on top. Their defensive front remains one of the most talented in the league, and the program’s culture of consistency continues to pay dividends in big moments.
At +130, Clemson is the clear favorite – and with returning talent and elite coaching, they’re a justifiable pick to repeat.
Miami Hurricanes (+430)
Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes are gaining traction as a legitimate contender after a 10-win season in 2024. Known for their physicality and improving quarterback play, Miami is building a more complete team on both sides of the ball. Their defense remains aggressive and athletic, and continued growth on offense could push them into title contention.
At +430, Miami delivers strong value for bettors who believe the Canes are ready to turn a corner and challenge Clemson for ACC supremacy.
Louisville Cardinals (+800)
Now entering Year 3 under head coach Jeff Brohm, Louisville continues to trend in the right direction. After making the ACC title game in 2023 and finishing 5-3 in conference play in 2024, the Cardinals have established themselves as a consistent threat in the league. Brohm’s creative offense and experienced staff give Louisville an edge in game planning, and the roster has been steadily reloading with talent.
At +800, Louisville is a smart mid-tier play — especially for bettors who believe continuity and coaching can lift them back into title contention.
SMU Mustangs (+850)
SMU made an immediate impact in its first ACC season, going 8-0 in conference and reaching the title game. Head coach Rhett Lashlee has built a high-tempo, explosive offense that puts pressure on any defense. While they fell just short in the championship, the Mustangs proved they belong in the ACC conversation and return a strong nucleus.
At +850, SMU offers excellent value for bettors looking to back a fast, hungry team with a proven system and momentum on their side.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (+1300)
Brent Key’s Yellow Jackets have become one of the most quietly dangerous teams in the ACC. After a 5-3 conference campaign in 2024, Georgia Tech showed major improvement on both sides of the ball. Their offense can stretch the field, and the defense has grown more disciplined under Key’s leadership.
At +1300, they’re a dark horse worth considering – especially if they carry last season’s momentum into a fast start in 2025.
