Preseason Player Spotlights

Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers)

The six-time Art Ross winner reclaimed the scoring title in 2025-26 with 48 goals and a league-leading 90 assists for 138 points in 82 games. McDavid recorded points in 68 of his 82 appearances and notched 43 multi-point performances while driving nearly half of Edmonton’s total offense. Still in his prime and widely regarded as the most dynamic offensive player in the game, he enters the new season as the clear favorite to win yet another scoring championship.

Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche)

Coming off a career-best 53-goal season that earned him his first Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy, MacKinnon also finished among the league’s top scorers with 127 points. The Avalanche star continues to produce at an elite two-way level while carrying a heavy offensive load. With another year of high-end chemistry alongside his supporting cast, MacKinnon remains a perennial threat to challenge for the Art Ross.

Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay Lightning)

The two-time defending Art Ross champion from 2023-24 and 2024-25 followed up with another outstanding campaign, posting 44 goals and 86 assists for 130 points in just 76 games. Kucherov’s vision, playmaking, and consistency keep him among the NHL’s most dangerous offensive weapons year after year. Even after finishing second to McDavid last season, he remains a top contender to reclaim the scoring title.

Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks)

The young superstar took a major step forward in 2025-26, setting a San Jose franchise record with 115 points (45 goals, 70 assists) in his second NHL season. Celebrini already ranks among the league’s most complete offensive talents and continues to elevate the play of those around him. As the Sharks improve and he gains more experience, he is expected to push for even higher point totals and contend for the Art Ross.

Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers)

McDavid’s longtime running mate remains one of the most productive and physical scorers in the league. Draisaitl consistently ranks among the NHL’s top point producers thanks to his size, shot, and elite hockey IQ. Whether playing alongside McDavid or driving his own line, he has the skill set and track record to challenge for the Art Ross whenever opportunity arises.

Kirill Kaprizov (Minnesota Wild)

The dynamic Russian winger continues to drive Minnesota’s offense with his elite skill, speed, and finishing ability. Kaprizov has established himself as a consistent 90-plus point threat and one of the most electrifying players in the Western Conference. If the Wild’s supporting cast elevates and he stays healthy, he remains a legitimate dark-horse candidate to climb the scoring race.

Art Ross Trophy Winner (2025-26)

Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) won the 2025-26 Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s scoring champion.

It was McDavid’s sixth career Art Ross Trophy, tying him with Gordie Howe and Mario Lemieux for the second-most in league history (behind only Wayne Gretzky’s 10). He finished the season with 48 goals and a league-leading 90 assists for 138 points in 82 games, eight points ahead of Nikita Kucherov (130 points).

McDavid recorded points in a league-high 68 of his 82 games and notched 43 multi-point performances. He contributed to nearly half of Edmonton’s total goals and secured his first Art Ross since the 2022-23 season, when he posted a career-high 153 points.

Art Ross Trophy

The Art Ross Trophy is presented annually to the National Hockey League player who leads the league in scoring points at the conclusion of the regular season. The winner is determined solely by objective statistical criteria and does not involve any voting process. This award is historically dominated by elite centers and wingers who maintain extraordinary offensive production, typically requiring them to rank among the league’s top producers in assists and goals. The final winner is the player with the highest total points (goals plus assists), with the tie-breaker being the player who scored the most goals.
